The Short Fiction of Ali Akhyari
The Short Fiction of Ali Akhyari
Currently, the short fiction of Ali Akhyari is being released one at a time in preparation of a book release. Only a few select stories will be released individually while the majority will become publicly available in the collected works scheduled to be released in the first half of 2012.
The Beating ($2.99)
Released November 20, 2011
The Beating is a more recently
completed short-story which, on the
surface, is about a young boy who has to deal with a couple of bullies. However, this story was inspired by Ali’s own frustrations with American politics, powerful corporations and a government that walks on the backs of a seemingly helpless populace. It is designed to encourage consideration of the roots of our modern civilization and why we, as citizens, are collectively prone to watch those who are supposed to serve us, instead, use and destroy us, from the comfort of our living rooms.
The Beating is currently available for purchase for $2.99 at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

The Gorilla Ghost
Released December 18, 2011
This short-story was a labor of love.
Written to honor his wife, The Gorilla Ghost follows two brothers doing some Christmas shopping when one is suddenly haunted by a gigantic gorilla that only he can see. He struggles to maintain composure and understand as the specter aggressively pushes him through the mall in search of the treasure of a lifetime. In typical Akhyari fashion, the story also attempts to discuss the evolution, or degeneration if you prefer, of masculinity and the crumbling quality of the definition.
The Gorilla Ghost is currently available for purchase for $2.99 at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com
Catching Up with Laura
Currently Unreleased
The most recently completed short by Ali, Catching Up with Laura is about a disillusioned, middle-aged father who is forced to consider the meaning of his life after what should have been just another Thanksgiving with his daughter. The reader takes every step with the main character on a difficult walk in which wanderlust is intertwined with money and society; passion and powerful memories. It begs the question: Why do we do what we do?
Catching Up with Laura should be available before the end of 2011.
